• The gate bounces or shudders near the end of travel: On SL-series slide gates, this usually means a chain bracket has come loose or the idler mount has bent. The chain slaps and the gate pulses. Ignoring it chews up the chain and the sprocket both.
• A loud pop or snap when the gate opens or closes: That’s a weld letting go. It happens now and then in Highland Park heat, when the steel expands and contracts every day for a decade. Once one weld pops, the load shifts to the next one, and they go in a cascade. Getting it re-welded early is the difference between a $180 bracket repair and replacing a sagging gate frame later.
